Get Younger with Green Tea

In one of my earlier post on benefits of Green Tea, I have talked about the weight reduction element present in it. But, this post will not confine itself to the slimming element of Green tea, but will also talk about its medicinal attributes and role in enhancing the overall beauty of your hair, skin and body, making you look and feel younger than before.

Green Tea for strong and lustrous Hair

It is observed that today almost 90% of the people around the world complain against dull and rough hair resulting in hair fall in women and baldness in men. Researches have proved that when the level of Dihydrotestosterone, usually termed as DHT, increases in the body, it leads to myriad of hair problems like, dull and rough hair, weak hair, hair loss, thinning of hair, etc.
Hair experts advise that drinking a cup of Green Tea everyday helps you to say bye-bye to your hair problems. It helps you to flaunt your lustrous, thick and dense hair in public envying others.

Green Tea benefits for healthy and glowing Skin

As mentioned earlier, Green Tea is a rich source of natural antioxidant. Thus it neutralizes the malicious effects of UV rays and other polluted elements that may damage your skin causing pre-mature ageing, pigmentation, acne and other skin problems. It is said that the anti-bacterial components present in green tea prevents acne. It also improves the metabolic system of human body resulting in healthy, clear and glowing skin. One can also use the leaves of green tea as herbal face mask to get a healthy skin.

Realizing the penchant of the beauty conscious people towards herbal products, today even the cosmetic manufacturing companies are opting to use natural components in their products. Hence, the extracts of green tea can be used as natural antioxidant in beauty products instead of chemicals.

Green Tea as Mouth-Freshener

If you are a prey of foul breath and is exhausted trying all types of medication, no worry! Now it’s time to feel the miracle of green tea. The green tea toothpaste that can be easily available at the flip of your hand is capable of taking care of the oral health of your family. However, even if you don’t buy it from market, the green tea toothpaste can be easily made at home by pouring a cup of boiling water over 100gms of Himalayan green tea and leaving it to infuse for nearly half-an-hour. Now make a paste out of this liquid by adding a teaspoon of baking soda. This will not only curb the foul smell of your mouth, but will also freshen it up preventing dental problems.

Green Tea as soothing spritzer

Apart from enlightening your external health, green tea liquor also acts as a soothing spritzer for your exhausted eyes or for your dull face. However, it also contains antiseptic elements that can be applied to cuts, rashes or burns to get a healing effect. It is also effective for skin problems like sunburn as mentioned earlier.

Green Tea as Weight Reducer

In my earlier post, a detailed account of green tea as weight reduction element has been mentioned.
To summarize it once again, drinking a cup of organic green tea everyday helps in reducing your weight due to the antioxidant properties present in it.  For detail refer: http://joooooozia.blogspot.in/2011/03/advantage-of-green-tea.html

ESSENCE OF SUFISM

If you have gone through my earlier blogs on Sufism, you might have got an idea about how the supreme music form has been manipulated by modern musicians to amuse people in public functions and in Hindi movies. But, today, in this blog I would like to talk about the spiritual element of the music form and how it is reciprocated across the world.

Sufism as the spiritual Path:

There is no doubt, that the role of music has been debated and condemned by Muslim scholars in the past as well as in the present, but for the Sufi saints, it is the ultimate solace for human soul to reach divinity. Whether accompanied by musical instruments and rhythms or not, Sufism is the path to spiritual development for the human soul.

The verses from the Sufi Literature written in praise of the Prophet Mohammad (may_peace_be_upon_Him) have also found a place in the sacred book of Islam, the holy Quran. These verses were originally written with a view to preach Islam and to introduce the goodness of the religion. Hence, the believers of Sufism used these verses as a medium to spread the message of Islam .It was their daily practice to recite and contemplate on these verses so that they can focus on the supreme power, the God, and unite themselves with the divine soul. It is believed that in such state, a Sufi can act as a bridge between the celestial power and the material world by performing miracles.
However, with the transition of time, the Sufi verses have undergone a change. Today, it is sung in dargahs and other religious and public gatherings accompanied by enchanting music and rhythms. The core of the music form mesmerizes the entire ambience, transcending the heart and soul of the listeners to a spiritual world. Today, it has emerged as one of the powerful tool to spread the message of Sufi culture. Sufi culture is not only confined to signing in praise of the Prophet or the Creator (Allah). It also unfolds the pain and suffering of a devotee in being separated from his Master. This forms the core of Sufi poetry and music.

Whether you spend your Thursday and Friday evening inside the Nizzamuddin Dargah in Delhi, or in a public gathering listening to and immersing yourself into the rhythm and music of Sufi, even without understanding the message that it is trying to propagate, the music form by no way fails to establish the fact that it is the music of ‘the soul, by the soul and for the soul.’

The Global stand of the Art Form:

As we all know that Sufi music is the heart of Muslim mystics and aims at spreading the teachings of Islam, hence Muslim dominated regions of the world like, Asia: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Anatolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, India, Syria, Israel, Indonesia; Africa: Morocco, Libya, Egypt, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia; America: Brazil, Cuba and Haiti, and others are not left untouched by the impact of the music form.

Sufi thoughts, which were basically composed in Arabic, traversed through different languages and culture from Persian to Turkish and are enriched by multiple cultures of the world. Today, it finds expression through diverse musical genres and untold musical forms.  Contemporary musicians and musical troupes across the world like, Sohrab Fakir from Sindhi, Pakistan; Musa Dieng Kala from Senegal; Ahl-Al-Haqq of Kurdistan; The Gnaouas and the Issawas of Morocco; Hamza Shakkur and Al-Kindi of Syria, etc. have contributed towards the expansion and embellishment of traditional Sufi music, thus giving it a new and unique flavor and style.

Sufi Music accompanied by Sufi instruments:

No doubt the real beauty of music comes alive when accompanied by right instrument. One can witness the majesty of Sufi Music which is also known as the ‘Music of Brotherhood’, when the music lovers of Morocco chants and dance together in a circle by holding each other’s hand; or in Turkey and Syria, when Dervish twirl themselves to the melancholic tune of the Sufi accompanied by subtle instruments, such as, Zukra, Rabab, Oud, Ney, Qanun, etc. along with the passionate music played on Darbuka and Bendir. The musical ecstasy created by the sounds of these instruments is enough to transform your soul to a spiritual world, where you can establish a contact with the Divine power.

As music forms an indispensable part of Sufism, hence the brothers of Morocco celebrates trance night before the holy month of Ramadan begins, by chanting mystic accompanying Gnawa. Even the African community residing in American continents follows this tradition.  While the Mourides residing in Senegal wants to be nearer to God by chanting Njang,; the Quwals of India seeks to reunite with the supreme power by reciting and singing Zikr, Quwwali, Sufiana Kalam, Ghazal and other musical genres in Farsi Hindi and Urdu.

Sukhwinder Singh: The Singing Legend

Born and brought up in Amritsar, Punjab, the renowned Bollywood playback singer, Sukhwinder Singh, rose to international fame with this song "Jai Ho" from the film 'Slumdog Millionaire' in the year 2008. Also popularly known as Sukhi amongst his admirers, the singing sensation has not only limited his talent to singing, but has also achieved success as a music composer, director & lyricist, and lately as an actor. Although he was aspired to become a sportsperson from his early childhood, singing happened to him by chance. Since he got a break in the Hindi film industry in the year 1986, there was no looking back for him. Till date, he has lended his mesmerizing voice in more than hundred Bollywood movies along with other regional films and albums. Sukhi has not only surpassed his talent in the Hindi film industry, but he has a huge fan following in Punjabi as well as in Tamil.

Journey of his musical career:

• Learning Music-

The multi-talented Sukhwinder kick started his career at a very tender age of 8 years by signing a melodious number from the movie 'Abhinetri' sang by the legendry singer, Lata Mangeskar during a stage performance. His profound love for music grew with each passing day, and learnt music under the guidance of the popular Bollywood music composer duo, Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar and Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma (popularly known as Laxmikant-Pyarelal). He also released his first Punjabi music album, titled: 'Munda Southhall Da' marketed by T-Series, prior to joining the troupe of the musicians.
This music album was a turning point to his music career as it helped him to achieve an award, and decided to pursue music as his profession.

• Struggle towards achieving success-

Before getting a singing break in the Hindi movie, 'Karma', this Punjabi born singer struggled hard to attain a position in the tinsel-town. He worked as a Music arranger for Laxmikant-Pyarelal group. Although his performance in 'Karma' remained unnoticed by the listeners, but very soon he got another opportunity to prove his talent by singing in Madhuri Dixit starrer, 'Khilaaf'. Even though, the song, "Aaja Sanam" was a hit, yet the singer remained unheard. Once again he did not lose hope, and went abroad to gain a deeper understanding about different genres of music. In the meanwhile, he also acted in a Tamil film called, 'Ralshakudu'.

• Skyrocketing Achievements-

After a considerable hiatus from the world of Indian music, Sukhwinder returned with a big bang after the success of the iconic number "Chal Chhaiyya Chhaiyya" from the Mani Ratnam directed film- 'Dil Se' in 1998. It was his self confidence and faith that kept him going even during the odd days of his singing career, and got him the prestigious Filmfare Award for best playback male singer in the year 1999.Since then, the ace singer witnessed an upswing in his profession and managed to grab the best playback male singer Filmfare Award once again in the year 2009, for the Shah Rukh Khan starrer song, "Haule Haule" from the movie 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi'. Other chartbuster songs that Sukhi has in his credit includes, "Huh Hud Dabang" (Dabang), title song of 'Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola', "Lootnewale" ( Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola), "Anarkali Disco Chali" (Housefull 2), "Banjara Banjara" (Ek Tha Tiger), "Tere Bin Sukha Sukha Saawan"(Kahani), title song of 'Chak De India' and many more. Other cinemas in which he lended his eloquent voice includes: Bol Bachchan, Taal, 1947 Earth, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Om Shanti Om, Kurbaan, Ishqiya, Omkara, Billu Barbar, Dillagi, Zubeidaa, Fashion, Garam Masala, Luck, Kisna, Tere Naam, Kaminey, Black & White, Biwi No.1, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Kuch Kariye, Chance Pe Dance, Ravan, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Chalte Chalte, Tashaan, Paheli, Lagaan and others.

From Sufi music to Thumri and Rock, Sukhwinder has excelled in all the genres and has a huge fan following in India and abroad. His surging voice went international with the success of "Jai Ho". He also sang an authentic Indian song for a Steven Spielberg's movie. Even his famous song, "Chal Chhaiyya Chhaiyya" was used in 2006 in another Denzel Washington starrer picture, 'Inside Man'.

Association with the maestro A.R Rahman:

A hardcore admirer of Mexican music and culture, Sukhwinder owes his success to the music maestro A.R Rahman. The duo has created magic not only in the Indian music industry, but has set the stage on fire even in foreign lands. No doubt, it was a Rahman composer, which helped Sukhi to reestablish himself in the industry. After the immense success of "Chaiyan Chaiyan", both of them worked closely with each other and created a number of Blockbuster compositions like: "Ramta Jogi" & "Ishq Bina" from Taal; " Jai Ho" from Slumdog Millionarie; "Chinamma Chinkumma" ( Tamil-Meenaxi); "Aaj Dil Gustakh" (Blue), "Ruth Aa Gayee Re", "Yeh Jo Zindagi Hain" (1947-The Earth); "Thok De Killi" (Raavan ); "Pagdi sambhaal jatta" (The Legend of Bhagat Singh); "Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai" from Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na; "Aayo Re Sakhi", "Piya Ho" and "Bhangari Morori" (Water), etc.
Whenever Rahman had to create any musical masterpiece, he mostly likes to approach Sukhwinder to create the magical aura. Rahman being an excellent music composer, arranger, sound editor and sound engineer, he always believes that a good piece of art can be created only through experiment. Hence, multi-talented artist like Sukhi has always remained his first choice. However, duo plans to take music to a higher level, where they can express themselves instead of confining their talent within the framework of Indian Cinema.
Apart from his association with the living legend, Sukhi has also bonded himself with music director Sandeep Chowta, with whom he wishes to establish a high-tech recording studio in Mumbai.

Sukhwinder Singh as an Actor:

Although never thought to take up acting as a career, acting happened to him by chance. It was during the recording of the songs of the movie 'Kuch Kariye' (2010), when the director, Jagbir Dahiya approached Sukhi to play the lead role. Seeing him recording with expressions and feelings, which was a pre-requisite for the lead role 'Rishi', the director offered him the proposal. Although reluctant at the beginning, the singer gave his consent after going through the script. In the movie too he plays the role of a musician, who comes from a relatively small town to Mumbai in order to pursue his music career.
Although the movie did not work out in the box office, yet the director is keen to re-launch it once more with a few changes. However, for Sukhwinder, music is his first love, and it will never take the backseat for the sake of acting.

Conclusion:

Like most singers, Sukhwinder too enjoys experimenting with music. From high noted "Anarkali Disco Chali" to Sufi mix "Dum Dum", he can sing all. Lately, he also recorded a motivational song to encourage the Indian athletes during the London Olympics 2012. Featuring superstars like, Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan, the song " Is baar Tiranga London Mein Phehraiga" composed by Salim Sulaiman succeeded in creating the right effect, and as a result India came out with flying colors by winning six medals. Another song ''Chak De India" too became the National sports anthem of the country containing the eloquent voice of the star singer. He also sang for various sports like hockey and Kabaddi, where India celebrated its victory.

Manikaran: The Town

Renowned for its pilgrimage centers, the small town of Manikaran in the state of Himachal Pradesh is nestled amidst the lush green Valley of Parvati at an altitude of 1760 meters. Nearly 45 kilometers away from the main town of Kullu in the Kullu District, this sacred town of hot water spring lies between the roaring rivers of Beas and Parvati. The town houses a number of Hindu temples and a gurudwara for the Sikhs. Hence, a large number of pilgrims throng to this town every year during their visit to Manali and Kullu. The place also holds its significance for its therapeutic spring of hot water and sparkling landscape.

The Myth of Manikaran Gurudwara and the Hot Water Spring

The multistory building of Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, which lies amidst the pool of hot water, has been built in the memory of Guru Nanak Dev's first visit to India along with his disciple Bhai Mardana. Legends tell that Guru Nanak did several miracles in this place. One of such instance is when Mardana was hungry and had no food to eat. Seeing this, Nanak sent him to collect food from the locals for both of them. Although, Mardana was successful in accomplishing the task assigned to him, yet the absence of fire could not let him cook the food. Then Nanak ji asked his disciple to lift a huge stone on which he was sitting and meditating. Mardana complied and a stream of hot water began to flow from that place. Now Guru Nanak asked Mardana to throw the uncooked food items in the stream and pray to God. After a while, the food items reappeared floating in the water in duly cooked form. Since then, the water of the hot water pool located inside the Gurudwara is used for cooking langar. Huge vassals loaded with raw food items are immersed in the hot water.
Today, the Gurudwara also has the capacity to accommodate approximately 4,000 people at a time. It also provides room facilities for the pilgrims who come to visit the place from far lands. The hot rocks inside the Gurudwara caves are exceptionally soothing and are sure to offer you a natural sauna feeling.
